YOUR ROCK ‘N’ ROLL SPIRIT GUIDES.

meet The CREW.

The heart and soul of Chiron Rock School are undoubtedly the rock 'n' roll spirit guides we call our teachers. A crew of exceptional individuals who, when they aren't teaching, are routinely rolling the rock 'n' roll dice and getting double sixes on the stage and in the studio with their own musical endeavours.

We understand that if a young person is to be held captivated at an after-school lesson and gets the most out of their time/money, the teacher had better be darn good. So, we've done our darndest to find the most inspiring humans, who are passionate about music, set them up in purpose-built isolated studios decked out with quality gear and given them the keys to the rock 'n' roller coaster.

Our teachers care about the next generation of rockers, and they want to see the future of music left in good hands. So read on and meet the faces that will help our next-gen reach their rock 'n' roll goals.

VOCALS

MARISSA HOLDER

Marissa Holder is an experienced vocalist and professional session singer, specialising in pop, rock, choral, and musical theatre.

As a practicing musician and producer, Marissa’s point of difference is real-world experience, which, combined with her technical training, enables her to help children and adults alike to discover and harness their unique sound. The basis of her teaching is classical technique, including breath support, vowel shaping, posture and alignment, resonance, and pitch accuracy. Students learn to identify what phrasing works for each genre, and how to bring the “X” factor to every song they sing.

Her qualifications include a BA in Musical Theatre from the National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Art, along with Levels One and Two in the Estill Vocal Method.

Marissa can currently be heard touring as the synth-pop solo act MxDicey, singing jingles on some of New Zealand’s largest radio stations, and formerly fronting hard-rock band Living State. She was also one of the five core cast in the home-grown Dominion Road: The Musical at the Playhouse Theatre.

Rosie Langabeer

Rosie Langabeer is an award winning songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and educator with a passion for fostering creativity and collaboration through music education.  She holds a Bmus in Jazz Composition from Massey University and has extensive (20+ years) experience teaching all levels of classical/jazz/rock keyboard, as well as mentoring bands and running vocal, songwriting and musical improvisation/jam sessions.

Hailed by the New York Times Rosie also works internationally as a composer and musician, collaboratively creating award-winning scores for theatre, film and contemporary ballet.  Her approach is highly sensitive to the unique qualities, skills and motivations of her students and collaborators, and she is adept at tailoring the material and methods to suit each person and situation.

"I love working with musicians at any level, beginner right through to professional. Music is a paradox, so simple yet so complex, there are so many aspects to it, so many things to learn and understand, but…on the other hand, it is simple to find easy sounds to play and enjoy, and build on them. When we start with listening and interacting musically, in a judgment-free, observational manner, the various elements of music naturally become more and more obvious, and we have fun along the way."
